FREE LEGAL SERVICES

Everyone deserves representation when their rights are violated; low income should not be a barrier. This is why our group of pro-bono attorneys are ready to offer you help when you need it. Pro bono literally means "for the good." For the good of our state and the health of our communities we work hard everyday to make our services known and accessible in the community.

Our staff attorneys comply with the California Rules of Professional Conduct, the Legal Services Corporation Act and its regulations promulgated thereunder, and with program standard, policies and practices including all caseload size and control protocols, case management, reporting, and grant compliance procedures. Our staff is available to provide legal counsel, advice, representation, and other legal assistance to eligible client groups in civil matters, including administrative proceedings and litigation in the state and federal courts. Feel free to contact us if you need legal assistance in any of the following areas:

  • Housing: subsidized housing, including Section 8 and Public Housing, Utility Terminations, and Housing Discrimination.

  • Employment: Unpaid Wages and Overtime, Employment Discrimination, Employment Retaliation, and Health and Safety Violations

  • Public Benefits: Medi-cal, SSI reduction or overpayments, General Relief, and Food stamps

  • Education: School Discipline including Suspensions and Expulsions, Bilingual Education, Special Education, Migrant Education, Special Education, and LGBTQ+Student Rights

If you meet the eligibility criteria you will be scheduled for an initial appointment with one of our attorneys. If no attorneys are available due to a backlog, you will be placed on a waitlist and contacted as soon as a pro-bono attorney can take your case. Please let us know as soon as possible if any changes need to be made to your application while you wait to hear back from us.

Our staff attorneys are also available to provide the community with legal education and outreach on issues and areas within the priorities identified by our organization. It is our staff’s priority to use their expertise both in matters which are routine, as well as in matters which involve policy advocacy necessary and appropriate to the resolution of legal problems which are of significant concern to the client community.
